Privacy & data ownership
Your household isn’t the product. Here’s exactly how Bee Hive treats your data. · Last updated 28 June 2026.
- We never sell your data.
- There are no ads, anywhere.
- There are no third-party trackers or analytics on the app.
- Your data is yours — export a full copy or delete everything, anytime.
What we store
Only what the app needs to run your family’s system: the family name, members (name, role, colour, age band), the tasks, points, rewards, lists, places, and the activity history you create. Logins are protected with hashed passwords or hashed PINs — we never store these in plain text.
If you provide an email, we use it to send the messages you opt into — invites, reminders, the family digest, and account notices — over our own mail server. Every non-essential email has one-click unsubscribe, and you can manage all of it in Settings → Email notifications. We don’t share your address with anyone.
Cookies & tracking
One first-party session cookie keeps you logged in, plus an optional “remember this device” cookie for tap-to-unlock on a shared family device. That’s it — no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no analytics SDKs.
Location
Location is optional and only used for one feature: reminders tied to places your family saves (like the grocery store). If you turn it on in our mobile app, the app checks your device’s location against your saved places and asks our server “is anything needed near here?” — so a reminder can surface at the right moment. With your permission this can work in the background, so a reminder still fires when you arrive even if the app is closed. We store the places you choose (a label and coordinates); we do not keep a history of where you’ve been, and we never share location with anyone. You can revoke the permission in your phone’s settings at any time, and the rest of the app keeps working without it.
Mobile app & notifications
If you install the Bee Hive app and allow notifications, we store an anonymous push token from Apple’s or Google’s notification service so we can send the alerts you opt into (a task approved, a reminder, an item needed). The token identifies a device, not a person, and is deleted when you sign out or uninstall. The app talks to our own server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection; there are no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
Payments
When billing is enabled, card payments are handled entirely by Stripe; Bee Hive never sees or stores your card number. We keep only your subscription status and Stripe’s customer/subscription IDs.
Export your data
A parent can download a complete copy of the family’s data as a JSON file at any time, from Settings → Your data → Export.
Delete your data
A parent can permanently delete the entire family — every member, task, point, and record — from Settings → Your data → Delete this account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible.
Children’s privacy
Bee Hive is designed to be set up and run by a parent or guardian, who must be 18 or older and who agrees to our Terms and this Privacy Policy when creating an account. Only that adult creates and controls every member profile, including any children’s. Children do not register, sign up, or provide information to us directly.
A child member profile holds only what the parent enters: a first name, a colour, an age band, and the tasks, points, rewards, and (if the parent sets one) a hashed tap-to-unlock PIN. We do not knowingly collect more than this from or about a child, we do not require a child’s real name, email, or photo, and we never use a child’s information for advertising — there is no advertising in Bee Hive.
By adding a child member, the parent gives consent, on the child’s behalf, for Bee Hive to store that information solely to operate the family’s task system. A parent can review, edit, or remove any child member, or delete the entire family, at any time from Settings, or by emailing us. If you believe a child has provided us information directly, contact hello@beehivetasks.com and we will delete it.
Your rights & choices
You can export or permanently delete your family’s data at any time (see above), manage email and notification preferences in Settings, and revoke location or notification permissions in your phone’s settings. To request a manual export or deletion, email us — see below.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we’ll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify account holders by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
